Some Facebook users in Illinois may have a little extra holiday shopping money coming their way.
Law firm Edelson PC issued a reminder that users of the social network who are located in the state may be eligible for a slice of the $650 million settlement of a class-action suit against the company.
The suit covered alleged violations of Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act triggered by Facebook’s tag suggest facial-recognition feature.
In order to be eligible, a person must be a Facebook user located in Illinois for whom the social network created and stored a face template after June 7, 2011.
People can go to this site by Nov. 23 to share the email address or phone number associated with their Facebook account, as well as basic contact information and how they would like to be paid (check, direct deposit, PayPal or Zelle).
Edelson said, “We can’t know for certain how much an individual class member will get, as it will depend on the number of claims that are submitted. However, we are currently predicting that an individual will get between $200 and $400. Because many households will have multiple class members, a family of four eligible people could get as much as $800 to $1,600.”
