Backlink Audit
When setting up any project, it’s always tempting to skip the last few steps and start working on it right away. Avoid doing this, and select countries of your target audience in the final step of the Backlink Audit setup. This information is necessary to properly evaluate the geo relevancy of your backlinks. Usually, the links coming from countries you’re not targeting are likely to be spammy and toxic.
Position Tracking – Multitargeting
Now, let’s get to the Position Tracking tool and its Multitargeting feature. Earlier, in the fifth module of the course, I said a few words about it. In the Position Tracking tool, you can initially set up just one particular location to track your visibility. When dealing with international SEO, you will definitely want to know how things stand in the countries where you’re running your business.
After configuring your project, go to the Devices and Locations report. Click the Add new device or location button, and select the location you want to track, copy the settings of your current campaign, or modify them, and start tracking. Overall, you can add up to 10 target locations. You’ll then be able to monitor your rankings for different locations within this project, comparing their visibility, estimated traffic, and average positions side by side.
A short, but important, note: if you’ve entered the Chinese market, SEMrush has you covered. You can track your visibility in the largest Chinese search engine, Baidu. Moreover, SEMrush Sensor allows you to monitor SERP volatility in China along with several other countries.
Brand Monitoring
Now let’s move on to searching for international link building opportunities with the Brand Monitoring tool. In the lesson dedicated to content benchmarking, we found out that the tool is capable of finding the resources of mentions and backlinks for your competitors. But, luckily, the tool’s functionality is not limited to this.
Create several campaigns targeted at different countries or languages of interest, using your own brand’s name as the main keyword. Our goal is to find opportunities for backlinks among resources that mention our brand, but don’t provide us with a backlink. Just apply the No link filter, and you’ll get a list of prospects. It makes total sense to reach out to them and ask for a backlink.
