In general, Position Tracking allows you to monitor your and your local competitors’ organic and paid Google rankings for a list of keywords you’ve selected, and to manage them in several ways. And it has much to offer your local SEO.
To configure the tool, you need to:
➠ Define your domain settings and your business name, it will help you see the locations where you succeeded in getting into Local packs.
➠ Select a device and a location you’re targeting – in order to focus on local visibility, you need to choose a target location, from city down to neighborhood level.
➠ Add your target keywords.
Once you get to the tool, go to the Competitors Discovery report. It will help you discover who you are competing with for your target audience. It’s a good place to find your competitors because it discovers them based on your list of keywords and specified location. You can see the domains that compete with you for keywords in the top 3/5/10/20/50 or 100 Google results.
By default, your competitors are sorted by visibility. Visibility is a metric that reflects how visible your domain, subdomain or URL is for the list of keywords you’ve set up. 100% visibility means that the tracked domain, subdomain or URL has the first position for every keyword in the project, while zero visibility indicates that it doesn’t rank in Google’s top 100 for these keywords.
Don’t be surprised if you see domains that are obviously not your competitors. Just blacklist them to omit from the list. Then, add your newly discovered competitors to your shortlist by clicking Set as competitor. You’ll be able to track their positions, estimated traffic, and visibility across your target keywords, comparing their metrics with yours in the Overview tab.
Next, let’s have a look at Local packs. Local pack is a SERP feature that appears for a query with local intent, and contains the most relevant nearby physical locations. You can see which of your target keywords don’t get you to the Local pack – simply use the Local pack filters. You need to work on these keywords to conquer Local packs and enhance your visibility.
If your business has several locations, you’ll really enjoy our Multitargeting feature. Go to the Devices and Locations tab, click the blue button, type in another location you want to track, copy your set of keywords and competitors from your previous campaign, or add new ones, and start tracking. You can add up to 10 target locations and compare your rankings between them.
