Snap Inc. already introduced ways for Snapchat users to share Stories outside of the application, and off-platform sharing of other Snapchat content is now being tested, as well.
Sara Fischer of Axios reported that Snapchat is testing ways for its users to share Our Stories, Publisher Stories, Snap Originals and Shows via sharable links through email, iMessage and other social platforms.
When clicked, the links will bring users to the Snapchat app or to a web or mobile web-viewing experience, Fischer reported, adding that all content will continue to be hosted on Snap’s servers and streamed via Snapchat’s online media player.
A Snap spokesperson confirmed the details, adding, “We’re always exploring ways to make it even easier to view Snapchat’s engaging and topical content and share it with your friends.”
Snap added App Stories to its Snap Kit tool set for developers in March, enabling developers to tap the Snapchat community and drive engagement for their platforms and allowing Snapchatters to share content from their Stories to other platforms and communities they belong to.
Fischer also reported that Snap is testing a rebrand of its For You personalized content feed as Spotlight, and the feed will feature content from creators, curated Stories and premium content, including Discover shows and Publisher Stories.
According to Fischer, users will be able to submit their Snaps for Spotlight in the same way they currently can for Our Story, and those Snaps will be reviewed by Snapchat for approval.
