Snapchat is testing a new way to navigate through public content on its application that should be very familiar to users of TikTok.
Twitter user @artb2668 shared a screenshot and video of a way to use a TikTok-style vertical swiping motion to browse content on Snapchat, and social media consultant Matt Navarra shared the screenshot in a retweet.
Snapchat confirmed that it is in the early stages of exploring different, immersive visual formats for content from its community, and a spokesperson said, “We’re always experimenting with new ways to bring immersive and engaging content to our mobile-first Snapchat community.”
Sarah Perez of TechCrunch added that the test works on content that is published publicly to Snapchat Discover, and not on private Stories from Snapchatters’ friends.
According to Perez, users will still have to tap to advance through Stories, with their multiple parts, but for those in the test group, a horizontal swiping motion, either left or right, will enable them to exit the experience instead of taking them to more Stories.
