Spotify debuted in 13 new markets in Europe Tuesday, highlighted by Russia, bringing its global total to 92 markets.
The streaming platform’s 13 new markets—for both its free and Premium service—are: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
Spotify cited data from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, saying that Russia is currently the No. 17 streaming market worldwide, and it is on pace to reach No. 10 by 2030, with over 87% of people in the country accessing music via streaming, versus 68% in the U.S. and 61% globally.
As part of Tuesday’s new rollouts, Spotify also debuted 200 new playlists featuring artists from those regions, and they are available to fans around the world.
Nearly 100 of those playlists focus on Russia, with editorially curated selections including Hip-Hop Cannon and New Music Friday Russia.
Spotify vice president of markets and subscriber growth Gustav Gyllenhammar said in a statement, “Today’s launch opens the door for nearly 250 million fans to start discovering new music from around the world on Spotify, and for artists in the region to reach the increasingly connected global audience of fans. Launching in these 13 markets is an important moment in Spotify’s journey, especially as we welcome fans and artists in growing music markets like Russia, where streaming is being widely adopted and where we see a significant opportunity for Spotify.”
